In the mid-1960's Frank & Frieda Schochet had a revolutionary idea - printing "on demand". They owned a printing business that was fairly typical of its day. When a job arrived at the print shop, a metal plate has made and it took a minimum of 2-3 weeks to get the job done.
Itek Graphic Products soon developed a "paper plate" that was quick & inexpensive compared to the metal plate that all printers used at the time. Frank decided to give it a try and thus was born the concept of "instant printing". Customers were thrilled to get their work done in 2-3 hours instead of 2-3 weeks.

With the success of the Insty-Prints, the Schochets opened more stores in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. Frank was soon contacted by others who wanted to buy into the franchise.
What started as a quick print - black ink on white bond paper and cash & carry only - soon evolved into the full service Insty-Prints as we know it today.
In November of 1981, Diane Rehder opened Insty-Prints here in Red Wing. She started in a small shop next to Johnson & Scofield Land Surveyors, a block and a half from our present location. She had one press, one photocopier, a folder and other bindery equipment. The shop grew quickly and it wasn't long before Diane had to hire someone to help her out. At the time no graphics were done in the shop. Everything was sent out to be typeset.
By 1986 many new pieces of equipment had been added and two more employees were hired. Diane felt the need to move to a large location. By fall we had moved into our present location at 1005 Main Street. To keep up with technology, computers were put into use and the graphics department was born.
In 1991 we were running out of room and an expansion was necessary. An addition in the back was added that became the press room. As technology became available we added high speed digital photocopies both for black and white and full color copies.
In 2002 we upgraded our press room by adding a direct to plate system. All printing orders can now be sent electronically to the platemaker making for a better quality printed piece.
Diane decided it was time to retire and in January 2005 Jennifer and Rick Weiss, owners of the Rochester Inty-Prints, bought the Red Wing Insty-Prints. This allowed for many new services to be abailable at Red Wing. Jennifer and Rick continue to upgrade our shop to keep up with every changing technology.
